Rap star Mos Def was arrested last night (Aug. 31) after MTV's VMA's because he didn't have authorization to perform outside of Radio City Music Hall in New York.
According to reports, Mos (born Dante Smith) pulled up outside the aforementioned venue in a flat-bed truck around 10 pm and gave an impromptu show to the audience gathered there.The Brooklyn bred rapper reportedly performed his song "Katrina Clap," which attacks President George W. Bush's administration's slow response to Hurricane Katrina, before NYPD officers told him and his entourage to pull the plug and began making arrests.Mos was released from police custody in the early hours of Friday morning (September1).Carleen Donovan, Mos's publicist, called the arrest of her client "unjust"."Mos Def was not out to break any laws. His only goal was to heighten the awareness of a serious situation that still exists in our country," Donovan explained via a statement. "He does not want people to forget that although its one year later, the people and cities hit by the hurricane still need the help of the American people."
